One could say Shane Lowry is enjoying life in Philadelphia. The Irish golfer is playing some of his finest golf at the Truist Championship, being second on the leaderboard after 36 holes, trailing Keith Mitchell by 1 stroke. He raised the bar with an exemplary performance on day 2, carding 5 under par for the lowest score in Round 2 with 6 birdies and a bogey. The fact that it has been an intense three-day stretch for the Irishman, including the Pro-Am on Wednesday, did seem to bother Lowry much.

You see, post his brilliant performance on day 2, Lowry was asked about the crowd presence at the Wissahickon Golf Course and how it felt to have them there braving the rainy weather. “The crowds are good. I was playing with Keegan, so we were getting a lot of USA chants. I and Rosie weren’t enjoying it too much. Yeah, I was talking to Keegan about it. He said he gets it everywhere he goes. It’s pretty cool. The crowds here are great. I’m looking forward to the weekend here. I think we’re going to have a great tournament here this weekend.” Lowry stated.

With the Ryder Cup coming in 4 months, it is no wonder that allegiances are getting defined clearly. Both Justin Rose and Lowry are likely to be in the squad for Team Europe at Bethpage come September, and the odds are the crowds are going to be even more intense then. Lowry also opened up about getting the chance to meet and play with former Philadelphia football star Jason Kelce.

“It’s cool. I always say in golf, we’re very fortunate to meet the people we do, traveling the world and coming to different places. To be able to go out in the Pro-Am and play golf with someone like that, I enjoyed the experience.” Lowry explained. Kelce is endearingly adored in Philadelphia, having played for the NFL team Philadelphia Eagles, during the entirety of his 12-year NFL career as the Eagles’ center, leading them to the Super Bowl title in 2017.

“It seems like, wow, he’s loved around here, isn’t he? That’s pretty cool about him. That’s what I really liked about him—how much of a hometown hero he is here and how much he embraces it all was pretty cool,” the Irish golfer further added. After the Pro-Am, Kelce also sang high praises of Lowry.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Shane for a long time. He’s got one of the most infectious personalities on tour, so being able to play nine like that was awesome.” On the par-3 16th, Lowry put the group about 12 feet left of the hole. After their playing partners missed their putts from the spot, Kelce knocked in the birdie before Lowry had his chance to putt. “It’s easy when Shane tells you where to putt it,” Kelce said. Notably, Jason Kelce was heavily involved in the proceedings surrounding the Pro-Am and had come to the Philadelphia Cricket Club to make a splash on the course.

Kelce had previously gone on the social media platform Reddit and shared a video of his swing along with this note. “Jason Kelce here. Now that I’ve hung up the cleats, I’m trying to get serious about my golf game. I’ve uploaded 6 different angles of my swing from a session yesterday. Looking for any tips you can give me — especially on my backswing and follow-through,” he wrote.

Whether his swing improved or not, Kelce did make a splash on Wednesday thanks to his on-course demeanor and the outpouring of love and support from the Philly fans.

Jason Kelce’s memorable moments at the Truist Championship

One of his more memorable moments came when the former NFL center was involved in a wardrobe malfunction. Kelce has put his shirt on backwards, which he realized a tad too late. In the process, the Philly faithful got a chance to see the transformation his body had undergone since his retirement, as the Eagles star had lost a lot of weight.

Kelce was involved in animated discussions with Justin Thomas and Shane Lowry as well. To Thomas, he stated that he loved seeing him in Netflix’s show ‘Full Swing.’ “You killed it, man. It was awesome.” Kelce explained to Thomas. The 7-time Pro Bowl selection also got to know that Shane Lowry dressed as his brother, Travis Kelce, during Halloween last year. With the beard and the jersey, he looked a lot like his brother, thereby prompting the question from the Eagles player, “Are you sure you are not a Kelce?” Both of them shared a laugh while Lowry explained how the costume idea came to be.

Jason Kelce did bring some much-needed energy to the Truist ahead of the intense four days of golf. What do you think of his appearance on the course?
