The field for the inaugural “Clockwork Carnage” match is finalized following the October 14 broadcasts of AEW Dynamite and Collision. This eight-man encounter will determine the AEW World Championship on Saturday, October 17, at Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida.
Adam Copeland secured one of the final spots in the match by defeating Josh Alexander. However, the victory was followed by a significant career update; Copeland announced that 2027 will be his final year as a professional wrestler. This retirement timeline creates a sense of urgency for the veteran as he enters a match type designed to test endurance and tactical scoring.
The final phase of the match will determine the champion based on total falls recorded in 15 minutes.
The Clockwork Carnage Field
The match features a mix of established champions and high-ranking contenders. Several participants entered the field while simultaneously defending other titles. Kazuchika Okada and Darby Allin both successfully defended the International and TNT Championships, respectively, during their qualifying bouts to earn their places at WrestleDream.
The full list of eight competitors includes:
Adam Copeland Will Ospreay Samoa Joe “Speedball” Mike Bailey Konosuke Takeshita Kazuchika Okada Ricochet Darby AllinThe match introduces a unique two-phase ruleset. Following an initial elimination period, the bout transitions into a 15-minute scoring phase. During this final window, the wrestler who records the most falls—via pinfall, submission, or count-out—will be declared the AEW World Champion. This structure places a premium on late-match stamina, particularly for competitors like Ospreay and Bailey who share a history within the United Empire stable but must now compete against one another for the top prize.
WrestleDream Card and Secondary Bouts
Beyond the World Championship main event, the WrestleDream lineup includes several high-profile grudge matches and title defenses. Jon Moxley is scheduled to defend the AEW Continental Championship against Mark Davis, while the tag team division will see the start of a Best-of-5 series between FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) and the Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin).
The event marks a shift in AEW’s autumn schedule, moving away from previous rumors of a Toronto-based show to the confirmed Orlando venue. With Copeland’s retirement clock officially ticking, the Clockwork Carnage match serves as a primary pillar for the promotion’s final quarter of 2026.
