Ross Wilkes (Ian Burfield) showed his dark side once again in Coronation Street today, this time targeting Tyrone Dobbs’ (Alan Halsall) young son, Dorin.
Tyrone was introduced to his biological father Ross earlier this year. Hope and Ruby (Isabella Flanagan and Billie Naylor) had managed to find the man via a DNA website, and revealed his identity to Tyrone during a family lunch.
As Tyrone got to know his dad, mum Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) hugely struggled to have Ross around. She eventually revealed to Tyrone that when she was 15, Ross gave money to a man so he could sleep with her.
This news shocked Tyrone, but it wasn’t enough to cut ties with his dad. Ross claimed that he was deeply sorry and full of regret over what happened, and Tyrone decided to give him another chance.
It was quickly established that Ross hadn’t changed at all since his first interaction with Cassie. As she plotted to get rid of the man, Ross threatened Cassie, telling her that he’d take action if she tried to come between him and Ty again.
Ross managed to orchestrate a situation that ultimately saw Cassie burn her bridges with her loved ones. Isolated and no longer welcome, Cassie decided to take a job on a cruise ship.
Ross took her to the train station, but we still don’t know if she actually made it there. The last we saw of Cassie, she had a major argument with Ross. Ever since, Cassie hasn’t been in contact with anyone, and Ross acts awfully strange whenever she is mentioned.
Yesterday, Ross got drunk at the Bistro and made some hurtful and very outdated comments about women abusing men. He didn’t believe that it could happen, which was a horrendous thing to say given Tyrone – who was abused by his partner Kirsty – was sat right beside him.
To keep his son on side, Ross had to say all the right words during his chat with Tyrone today – and it worked. Ross pretended to be supportive, he listened, and even held Tyrone’s hand at one point as he detailed what Kirsty put him through.
Ross’ behaviour during the chat with Ty was all an act as later, viewers got a glimpse of his dark side once more.
While alone, Ross asked Dorin about the doll he was playing with. Dorin told him that the doll was called Shirley.
Ross took the toy and threw it behind him. In a chilling moment, he told Dorin that little boys don’t play with dolls, and that continuing to be ‘soft’ will mean he turns out just like his dad.
How long will it be until Tyrone discovers who Ross really is?
