A24’s Overlooked 2026 Horror Movie & More HBO Max Releases This Week

New HBO Max movie and TV releases from June 22 to June 28, 2026, include an A24 horror film that flew under the radar.

The supernatural horror film Undertone was written and directed by Ian Tuason in his directorial debut. It follows Evy, a podcast host who covers paranormal content. She moves in with her dying mother, but things turn upside down when she receives recordings of paranormal noises from a married couple. Soon, Evy realizes the couple’s story is paralleling hers, drawing her into paranoia.

Undertone conveys horror through sound design, with Evy and her mother only appearing onscreen while the rest of the characters are off-screen voices. Nina Kiri and Michèle Duquet play Evy and her mom, respectively. The film opened to mostly positive reviews from critics. Moreover, it emerged as a success at the box office, grossing nearly $22 million on a $500,000 budget. It boasts a 84% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Also coming to HBO Max this week are a couple of HGTV shows. This includes Season 21 of Love It or List It and the latest installments of House Hunters. Furthermore, an American sketch comedy limited series created by Larry David and Jeff Schaffer will soon arrive on the platform called Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.
