There are few titles that conjure the same sort of impression as Scarface. It is both stylish and endlessly violent, nuanced, yet biting. Based on the 1932 film, Scarface: The Shame of a Nation (as well as loosely inspired by true stories from the criminal underworld), Brian De Palma’s 1983 remake surpassed its source material both artistically and culturally. However, it wasn’t the last time that the crime saga was brought to the big screen, as Joel & Ethan Coen almost teamed up with dynamic director Luca Guadagnino to remake the film. However, years after the initial announcement, it seems we may never get to see Guadagnino’s take on the iconic story.
