A New Wonka TV Show Is Suddenly No. 2 on Streaming After Timothée Chalamet Blockbuster

A new Wonka series is gaining attention on Netflix shortly after its debut. Wonka’s Golden Ticket follows the success of Timothée Chalamet’s 2023 film, which became a major box-office hit. The new series takes the character in a different direction, presenting Wonka through a reality competition format.

Wonka’s Golden Ticket is swiftly taking over Netflix after debut

Wonka’s Golden Ticket is quickly gaining traction on Netflix following its recent debut. According to FlixPatrol, the show reached No. 2 on the platform’s U.S. Top 10 TV show list on September 24, 2026. It has surpassed several well-known titles, including The Gentlemen, Not a Stranger, Death of the Pastor’s Wife, and more.

Timothée Chalamet’s Wonka, released in 2023, was the last major screen hit centered on the character, with a sequel currently in development. While that follow-up remains years away, Wonka’s Golden Ticket is now bringing the character back to the spotlight. 

Netflix launched Wonka’s Golden Ticket on September 23, 2026, with the reality competition opening with seven episodes. The remaining two installments are set to premiere on September 30, completing the nine-episode series.

Rich Kim is credited as the director, while the production does not have a conventional on-screen host. The character of Willy Wonka is instead represented through an AI recreation of Gene Wilder’s voice from the 1971 film.

The reality show follows 12 contestants, who enter a recreation of Wonka’s Chocolate Factory after securing one of the 12 Golden Tickets, accompanied by their respective partners. Once inside, the pairs compete in challenges that require both physical and mental abilities, while additional temptations are introduced throughout the competition. The ultimate prize is presented as a “lifetime supply of money.”

The participating pairs include Marcy and Joanne, Shawn and Garrison, Ray and Jackson, Bill and Kayla, and Tatum and Kellye, among others. So far, Wonka’s Golden Ticket has received a mixed critical response. The series currently has a 20 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on five reviews.
