‘A Minecraft Movie’ Just Built Itself a Place on a Major Box Office List

No other movie has managed to reach the heights of A Minecraft Movie at the 2025 box office. By some considerable distance, Jared Hess' video game adaptation is the biggest hit of the year, turning in over $909 million from six weeks in theaters, split between a domestic total of $408.9 million and $500.6 million from overseas markets. Starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa in lead roles, the movie was always destined to be somewhat of a hit, but, given the frustrating lack of appeal the 2025 theatrical line-up has had on audiences so far, many couldn't have predicted it would be an almost-billion-dollar hit.
