A Minecraft Movie has hit a major global milestone. The movie, which was directed by Jared Hess and stars Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, and Jennifer Coolidge, is inspired by the popular titular video game. The Minecraft Movie release kicked off with a domestic debut of $162.7 million, which marked the best opening weekend for a video game movie in history, besting 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($146.4 million). In addition to debuting at No. 1, it held that position for two consecutive weeks before being buffeted down by Sinners in its third weekend.
