George Miller, in the most complimentary way possible, you are bonkers. That's the natural response for a viewer to have after watching Mad Max: Fury Road, a film that remains as audacious and bonkers 10 years after its release. The long-gestating legacy sequel to Miller's post-apocalyptic trilogy seemed destined to remain his White Whale, the passion project that seemed impossible to realize in a live-action mold. In the end, the interminable and chaotic production of Fury Road, which saw countless delays, re-castings, hostile clashes between its stars, dangerous practical stunts, and dust storms, proved that his dream film wasn't built to placate human sanity and perseverance. By some miracle, the film was finally completed without any casualties. Even more miraculously, Fury Road, a film deemed too insular, something that only its director could envision, became a full-fledged masterpiece that ranks as one of the finest action movies ever made.
