Long before police procedurals became part of the cultural lexicon, Dragnetmade its mark on TV history by establishing the conventions that every show in its aftermath would ultimately follow. With few shows having greater influence on procedurals than Dragnet, series like Law & Order, NCIS, CSI, and Blue Bloods would follow in the series' footsteps, building the style that would define procedurals with its interesting run. Created by and starring Jack Webb, Dragnet was a radio program before it was a TV show, making its debut in 1949 over the airwaves, then coming to the newer platform in 1951.
