Buddy, the new horror movie about a friendly kids' show mascot that isn't so friendly, was inspired by the show Barney & Friends, about a friendly purple dinosaur. As much as Barney delighted small children (and he did, since the show was wildly popular), there was also something about a giant talking purple dinosaur dancing around that was unsettling and just a little creepy.
