Thrillers are one of the few genres that make control feel possible even when everything is going wrong. For instance, a door left open, a strange phone call, the way somebody answers a question half a second too slowly, it all feels like it can still be read, understood, and solved. And while modern thrillers are slightly different now, it was mainly between 2000-2015 that the most potent thrillers came through.
