Florida State once looked like the frontrunner to land Lamar Brown, the 8th overall prospect in the country. The hype for the DL reached a fever pitch, and virtually every school in the country was looking to land Brown. After all, he is a 5-star, 98-rated player on 247 Sports and is a beast, standing at 6’4″ and 285 lbs. Cherry on top? His versatility. His excellence is not limited to one side of the ball. He could play in the trenches both on offense and defense. So FSU and Mike Norvell would have felt excited when the player announced that he would visit FSU. However, a program was lurking in the shadows and continued with its pursuit of Brown. Next thing you know, Brown canceled his FSU trip. Reason? Another powerhouse was making quiet moves. So Brown packed his bag, and is on to visiting that program along with 2 other programs, which are leading in his recruitment.
Well, that program is none other than Steve Sarkisian’s Texas. While Florida celebrated prematurely, Texas ramped up its recruitment . Now, it is leading in his recruitment right now, along with LSU and Texas A&M. Being the native of Erwinville, Louisiana, Brown’s commitment has long leaned towards LSU because of proximity. But don’t count Texas out, since Brown’s commitment isn’t yet finalized. If an insider is to be believed, then Texas is edging close with its latest move.
Speaking on the May 21st episode of ‘After Further Review: LSU, ‘ Shea Dixon of On3 Sports highlighted Texas’s growing “So LSU and A&M were two teams that have been on him a long time, that made sense for a number of reasons. And then Texas has not only been recruiting him, but to be able to get an official visit, I think, is notable. They, you know, are a team in East Texas. It’s not like it’s a super far drive, easy flight.” But when is Lamar visiting Texas?
As per On3, Brown will visit Texas on June 6th, around the same date he was to visit FSU. The player has his visit scheduled for the Aggies on June 13th and June 20th for LSU. So, right now, if Shae Dixon is to be believed, then Texas’s recruitment focus is in Louisiana. With players like Arch Manning or Derek Williams playing a part in convincing Brown to come to Austin. Still, LSU and the Aggies would face constraints.

Brown is not just an elite football talent; he’s a multi-sport athlete. He has shown his skills in Discus and Shot Put throws. And this level of athleticism and physicality makes him an intriguing prospect for teams. For instance, in 2022, as a freshman, the player played snaps on both sides of the ball and earned a MaxPreps Freshman All-American second team selection. Talk about his Junior season? Brown played on the O-line and earned All-America first team honors. So his versatility is just one of the reasons why Texas is after him, and Steve Sarkisian has a sly move up his sleeve.
Steve Sarkisian is hoping to land Lamar Brown with a hidden move.
In today’s college football, relationships matter almost as much as the NIL money. And guess what? Texas has both, since Sarkisian is spending an estimated $40 million this year. So with the deadly combination of that NIL money and the reported ‘relationship’ that Sarkisian might appeal. It looks like Brown will be donning that orange and white after all.
The player talked to On3 about his connection to defensive ends coach La Allan Clark and how it goes way back when he was just a kid. “When I look at schools, I wanna have that great relationship with my position and they [Texas] top it off,” he told On3’s Chad Simmons. “I will 100% say that I have the best relationship with Coach Clark than any other school I’m interested in right now. And this is not even a knock off to the other DL coaches because I have a great relationship with them also….When I was a little kid, we knew each other well. I used to go to his football camps, and his dad coached me at my middle school for basketball.” The verdict?
Texas is coming in full swing for Brown. However, LSU and the Aggies are also fighting toe-to-toe in the battle. The On3 probability predictor even puts LSU at 1st with 97% probability of the player joining. With just 15 miles between Brown’s hometown and LSU, will the Aggies stand a chance? Well, Brown has shortlisted Aggies in his top colleges, and with the upcoming visit and Mike Elko investing heavily in the future, the move seems more possible.
