2025 U.S. Women’s Open: Five Biggest Names Missing From $12M LPGA Major

After the exciting PGA Championship on the PGA Tour, it is time for the US Women’s Open to take the center stage with the best of LPGA professionals. Being one of the oldest and greatest tournaments of the Tour, this year it will be hosted at a new venue. Do you remember the historic win of Brooks Koepka at the 2017 Men’s US Open? The same venue, i.e., Wisconsin’s Erin Hills, will host the US Women’s Open too.

With a $12 million prize purse and the Harton S. Semple Trophy at stake, many prominent names have started preparing for the event. However, there are still some names that will be missing the event, leaving fans disheartened.

5 names not part of the 2025 US Women’s Open

Jessica Korda

The 6x LPGA Tour winner has been among the top seeds for the US Open, but with her personal life development, she took an indefinite break from her course appearance. In 2024, she welcomed her son, Greyson, and focused on raising him. With that, the golfer who achieved a T7 finish in 2013 will be the best and unmatched until she joins the roster back next year (hopefully). Earlier in December 2024, she shared about her comeback planned in 2026 after shifting partial focus from motherhood to her professional career.

Alison Lee

2025 isn’t the year to mark the 11th appearance for the recently turned mother, Alison Lee. The two-time LPGA Tour winner and two-time Solheim Cup player have recently welcomed a son, Levi, on April 25, 2025. With her announcement on social media, the entire golf community joined in to celebrate the joyous moment while knowing the unstated and indefinite break from the course. This will be the first time since 2020 that she will be missing the tournament. Her best finish of T16 in 2021 will stay the same, at least for this year.

Georgia Hall

Georgia Hall, who started playing at the age of 7 with her father, has continued to lay down a legacy of her own on the course. The 29-year-old English professional has bagged 7 professional titles, including the 2018 Women’s British Open. But the golfing sensation saw a drop in performance with the 2025 schedule. Out of the seven participations, she made it to the weekend only twice. And shockingly, this will be the first time the World No. 95 will be missing the US Women’s Open since 2016. The first major since the 2017 Chevron Championship (formerly ANA Inspiration).

Ally Ewing

The third-place finish in 2024 from Ally Ewing was the hope of clinching her first major title. But unfortunately, the process of contention has come to an end. The list of players missing the US Women’s Open includes the 32-year-old who announced her retirement with a “heavy but grateful heart.” Unlike Lexi Thompson, who, after her retirement news, continued to be a part-time professional, Ewing will be stepping away completely. With three LPGA Tour victories and top-10 finishes in all major tournaments, the professional career of Ewing came to an end with the 2024 season.

Xiyu Janet Lin

The 2024 Paris Olympic bronze medalist and 2010 Asian Games silver medalist is another shocking name who stepped away from the 2025 US Women’s Open. With 9 professional wins, she participated in two LPGA Tour events this season but missed the cut in both. But form isn’t the reason for stepping back; personal life advancement is. The Chinese professional shared on social media that she is expecting a little one soon, and considering this, she will take a break till the end of this year. She shared it on Instagram, writing, “Competition golf is officially on pause for the rest of the year, but I hope one day I’ll return to @lpga_tour with a little hand in mine.”

The names came in as a surprise to the golf world. But despite some prominent names missing the event, there’s still a strong player roster that will elevate the entire major experience with adrenaline-filled, intense competition. Lexi Thompson will be making her 19th appearance at this major, which would be historic. Who are you rooting for this season? Is your favorite player missing the event?
