Owner Mr. Orban generously provided the land for the course and the farm at no cost to the club for its first decade. Interesting? Even more intriguing are the purse and perks this DP World Tour event will offer its players during the Soudal Open, running from May 22-25.
So, what’s at stake at the 2025 Soudal Open? Well, quite a lot! Apart from the 20th DP World Tour title, the winner will cash $467,500 out of the $2.75M purse, which reflects the standard 17% payout according to the DP World Tour’s prize money distribution chart. Similarly, the runner-up will take home a staggering $302,500 (11.00%) from the purse, with the 3rd place golfer winning $172,150 (6.26%). A total of 5 top finishers will take home more than $100,00, so it’s evidently a lucrative event. However, beyond the cash, the Soudal Open offers many more perks, especially for the winner. The Soudal Open champion receives around 23.2 OWGR points, determined by the strength of the field. Winning also brings substantial perks, such as a two-year exemption on the European Tour and entry into other major events. The event offers a total of 3,500 Race to Dubai points and an additional $200,000 as a bonus as well as a place in each of the lucrative Back 9 tournaments.
The winner earns 585 DP World Tour points, and the player with the highest total of Race to Dubai points at the end of the season will claim the Race to Dubai title and its top prize. Additionally, the top eight players in the Race to Dubai standings at the season’s conclusion will receive payouts from a $6 million bonus pool. “I quite enjoy when a par is a good score. I find it tough sometimes when you just need to make birdies and there’s a lot of pressure on to make birdies. So when it’s quite tough like that to grind out pars, I feel comfortable with that because that’s how I was brought up playing and in Scotland par is a brilliant score,” said the Soudal Open leader, Ewen Ferguson. The 28-year-old Scottish golfer recorded seven birdies, finishing with a second consecutive round without any bogeys. In his third round, the Scot made two bogeys, however, he is still at the top. John Parry currently stands at -4, having recorded scores of 68, 67, and 67 for a total of 202. He is just a few strokes behind Ferguson. Darius van Driel holds a score of -2, totaling 204 after rounds of 69, 66, and 69. Although he trails Ferguson, he remains in contention and aims to improve his standing.
Frederic Lacroix and Oliver Lindell both sit at -6, with total scores of 205. Lacroix posted rounds of 68, 72, and 65, while Lindell finished with scores of 69, 71, and 65. Jordan Smith is also in the mix at -7, with a total of 205 after rounds of 70d, 71, and 64. Andy Sullivan, Troy Merritt, Joost Luiten, and Branden Robbinson Thompson are closely trailing behind. Ferguson seems like a clear winner, however, much can happen in the final round!
