Before the first major of the LPGA season kicks off, the spotlight turns to the 2025 JM Eagle LA Championship—a high-stakes battleground where players put their skills to the ultimate test. The seventh edition of the tournament is taking place at the El Caballero Country Club in Los Angeles, California, a different venue from last year.
In 2024, the tournament made headlines by boosting its purse to what it is today, up from just $1.5 million in 2022. That $2.25 million jump certainly reflects the event’s growing prestige. However, it also became the tournament having the largest non-major purse on the LPGA Tour. Now the tournament features a field of 144 players, but only the top 70 will share the impressive $3.75 million purse, with the winner taking home a hefty $562,500.
Two-time defending champion Hannah Green is also competing for the good cause. She talked about it last month and said, “I’m hoping that we do get a turnout and we can actually make a big difference during the tournament week. I didn’t really think about it until I arrived last night in LA, but I would like to pledge for every birdie that I make that I’m going to donate $500 to a relief. I hope that I can make as many birdies as possible.” While she is also trying for a three-peat, top contenders like Nelly Korda and Minjee Lee are in hot pursuit of the title.

Big names like Lydia Ko and Charley Hull are not part of the field this week. Ko last played at the T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards and finished T35. After the disappointing finish, she may be taking her time to think things through before moving to the first major of the season. Despite them not participating, the competition isn’t easy by any means.
Who can win at the 2025 JM Eagle LA Championship?
While the eyes were on Nelly Korda, it’s Ingrid Lindbald who seems to have the full spotlight right now. She joined the tour this year and is already making waves with a 63 in her second round. Thanks to ten birdies on Friday, the 25-year-old is leading the charge. If she manages to keep this dominating performance up, there is no doubt she will win her first title on the LPGA Tour. However, alongside her is Ashleigh Buhai, tied for 1st, so things could go any way in the second round.
Another name to keep an eye on is Minjee Lee, who is just one stroke behind the leader, and we all know that things are very random after the third round. Turning a few pages behind, on February 2, 2025, Minjee Lee made a spectacular charge at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, firing a career-low 10-under 62 in the final round at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club. She finished tied for fourth with Jin Young Ko, taking a $115,392 slice of the $2 million purse.
Ultimately, as for the defending champion, Hannah Green, she carded a 67 in the second round and is currently sitting at T20. Although she is three strokes behind the leader, it might be tough for her to climb up. Who are you rooting for this week? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
