Russell Crowe hasn't headlined a blockbuster in over a decade, but he's making the most of his star power by choosing movies that probably wouldn't get made otherwise. Even if the massive tentpoles are no longer coming his way — he seemed quite upset about being left out of Gladiator II — Crowe has starred in several successful mid-budget movies in the last decade. Among them are the horror hit The Pope's Exorcist and the period drama Nuremberg. Although The Pope's Exorcist was said to be getting a follow-up, the project hasn't materialized so far. It would have been the first major sequel to one of Crowe's movies. He came close with Gladiator II as well, back when the movie was supposed to go in a different direction entirely. However, there's one movie whose commercial underperformance remains the most tragic of them all, because it robbed fans of what would have been a truly enjoyable franchise.
