Crime television has to be fast-paced, but the momentum that defines the genre doesn’t necessarily need to come from car chases or police shootouts every five minutes. A conversation can create just as much tension as an action sequence if every little piece of information drives the story in an unexpected direction. That works especially well in crime stories because the crime itself is rarely the end. If anything, it is usually where the real complications begin.
