10 Scariest Horror Movies of the 1960s, Ranked

The 1960s spanned the worldwide shift from post-war conservatism to the supposedly freewheeling Age of Aquarius. Hair came down, skirts went up, pants flared out, and social equality issues of race, gender, and sexuality became larger public discussions, even if social change was far slower to follow. Anticipations and fears about these changes leeched into the visual id of every era: genre movies. Horror is subjective, more so than other genres. What frightens one person is nothing to another. With that caveat, the films below are ones I find personally unnerving, and whose uneasiness lingers longest in my mind.
