Everyone needs a change of pace sometimes — including musicians. But changing genres isn’t as easy as turning off a light switch. It takes a lot of effort to build a signature sound that would latch onto a target audience. Diverting to a new sound not only requires an artist to rebuild from scratch, but it also means alienating a loyal fan base that’s already used to a certain musical style (it’s bad news for music labels who see fans as profit.)
