Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon came out in 1950, and it's still considered one of the most exciting films of all time. The tale of a rape and murder in the forest gets explored from the perspective of a bandit, a samurai, the samurai's wife, and a woodcutter who claims to have witnessed the events. The story is also told in retrospect, by men who've heard conflicting interpretations of this tragedy. What results is a complicated and powerful exploration of truth.
