What makes a movie subversive? There are oh so many things that can. Challenging hegemonic cultural norms, breaking storytelling rules that have been ruling the art form for decades, and consistently turning audiences' expectations on their heads all most definitely help. Throughout history, there have been many sci-fi masterpieces which have been nothing if not brilliantly subversive.
