There are plenty of reasons why Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is considered a classic today (though it wasn’t particularly popular upon release, it’s worth mentioning). It works as a musical, a fantasy film, a family movie (aside from the terrifying stuff), and even a bit of a dark comedy, what with an unstable titular character being eccentric and willing to punish various snotty children for their misdeeds.
