"Midnight movies" got their start in the 1970s, when some movie theaters began screening non-mainstream movies late at night, deliberately trying to grow a cult audience for oddball titles. Over time, it grew into a tradition and a movement, a way for fans to get together and celebrate some of the weirdest tales ever committed to celluloid, from zany B-movies to "so bad it's good" classics.
