1 Month After Auburn Commitment, 5-Star QB Deuce Knight Flirts With SEC Giants as Rivals Go All-In

2 weeks ago 11

Another day opens with recruitment hoopla. This time it’s the 5-star SEC commit Deuce Knight. Well, Knight has made his way to the headlines for not the good reasons. For the past couple of months, whenever you could spot his name, it was about him jumping from one program to the other. Hailed as one of the top-rated quarterbacks in the 2025 recruiting class, Knight had given his words to Auburn just a month before. But looks like he has taken the quote ‘no feeling is final’ way too seriously. And now his Auburn commitment might just be on the ropes, too. However, now that SEC giants are locking horns for this one recruit, there has to be something special about him.

Surprise has been the other name for Knight. Last year, in late September, he had committed to Notre Dame. But even after that, he kept his doors open, and after visiting multiple programs, he flipped his commitment to Auburn in October. It has been one month, and here comes Knight with yet another big surprise. On November 9, Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels hosted one of the biggest games facing off against Georgia. So it goes without saying that it’s a huge recruiting weekend and Knight is also making an official visit to Auburn’s SEC rival, Ole Miss. This was then taken up by the On3 Recruits podcast, where analyst Steve Wiltfong too confirmed the news: “Deuce Knight is in Oxford they didn’t want anything leaking out until he arrived on campus but that tells me that this thing has been brewing for a while right now.”

Wiltfong further drew a comparison that, unlike the Michigan Wolverines’ late push for Bryce Underwood, Kiffin had never given up on the hope of landing Knight. The Ole Miss HC had kept in touch with the 5-star QB all throughout as he kept on changing address from Notre Dame to Auburn. So what are the chances of the Rebels landing Knight?

Wiltfong believes that it’s going “uphill” in the “Deuce Knight sweepstakes.” However, Kiffin is willing to go to any extent as he is the only QB they are targeting for the 2025 class. Now it’s the battle of Auburn vs. Ole Miss. But what makes him so enticing?

Deuce Knight’s athleticism makes waves across the country

2024 has been Knight’s year. The 6-foot-4 QB threw for 538 yards and ran for 113 yards. Along with this, the George County athlete accounted for nine touchdowns. And if we consider the On3 Industry Ranking, the quarterback is the nation’s No. 32 overall prospect for the 2025 cycle. His forte lies in consistently running in the 4.5-second range at camps and Knight has even posted 40+ inch vertical leaps.

On November 8, he was officially honored as a 2025 Navy All-American by America’s Navy. Being a standout senior, he received the honor as a part of the Road to the Dome tour. So it’s evident why the SEC rivals can’t afford to lose out on Knight. Now let’s see what he shares about his commitment journey. But can his words be taken into account?

When Auburn had hit a rough patch, going winless in the SEC, the 4-star QB commit stood beside their HC Hugh Freeze, “Just be patient — trust in us, trust in Coach Freeze. He’s got the plan, that’s the man with the plan. Be patient and we’re going to turn everything around.” Cut to November; we all know what Deuce Knight is up to. Sigh!
